A major work in the canon of American theatre, Pulitzer Prize-winning Our Town explores the themes of life, growth, and death within the framework of two small-town families and their neighbours. Wilder's humanistic views are threaded throughout the work and emerge as a pattern of optimism that depicts life as both terrifying and wonderful, while emphasizing the spark of immortality that exists in each human spirit. The play's period setting lends a timeless relevance to a message that is at once uplifting and thought-provoking.
